- Job description**Vehicle Examiner**

**Location Rugby**

**Permanent Contract**

**Full Time**

**_ Salary (£28,530 - £33,348)_**

**The closing date for this post is 12 noon on Wednesday 14th June.**

**Those currently eligible on the redeployment register will be given prior consideration.**

The main purpose of the role is to examine vehicles involved in collisions (including fatal or serious injury road traffic collisions), capture evidential photographs, analyse the results of examinations, prepare and present expert evidence in court.

**Main Responsibilities**:
Conduct specialist and technical mechanical examinations, to identify offences under Construction and Use legislation, or substantiate allegations of mechanical failure. Determine causation factors from impact damage and examine tyres of any motor vehicle to advanced standard.

Conduct expert evidential inspections to confirm the true identity of suspect, stolen and burnt out vehicles.

Attend incidents and other non-police premises, to examine vehicles and provide assistance to both Local Policing and the Operations Patrol Unit.

Examine colleague’s reports (as required by ACPO protocol) and be available to advise other staff with difficult, serious or complicated matters, mentor trainee Vehicle Examiners and Forensic Collision Investigators and present familiarisation talks as required.

Produce expert technical reports, attend court as an expert Vehicle Examiner and provide expert advice to the Crown Prosecution Service and Legal Counsel on evidence relating to all types of Vehicle Examinations

Examine vehicles involved in collisions driven by Police Officers, Police Staff and other Emergency Personnel, diligently and impartially.

Assist in the administration of Force Prohibition and the Commercial Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme to ensure strict compliance.

To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required.

**Knowledge**:
ONC/ Level 3 qualification in Motor Vehicle Engineering or equivalent.

City and Guilds Motor Vehicle Technicians part 2 and 3

Sound understanding of vehicle diagnostic equipment.

Knowledge of road traffic legislation

Sound understanding of vehicle handling and dynamics.

**Experience**:
Extensive experience of maintaining and testing a wide variety of vehicles including both electrical and mechanical systems.

Experience of working in either in an enforcement or MOT testing environment.

**Key Skills**:
A full UK driving licence and PSV or LGV licence.

Ability to work methodically to analyse and present data or other evidence in a clear and logical manner.

Demonstrate sound investigative skills.

Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to compile comprehensive technical reports and present them at formal proceedings.
