- Job description- This is an exciting opportunity to join the Devon H&T team, contributing to the excellent service we provide to our customers in the beautiful county of Devon.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, positive and fun individual who can contribute to the field and office-based delivery of the Hydrometry and Telemetry monitoring programme across Devon.

The role will require you to use your own initiative, work independently at times and prioritise your work effectively. You will be required to work in the field in all weathers carrying out quality assurance, responding to & repairing instrument faults and carrying out reactive site visits during incidents.
You will be required to manage, quality assure and analyse data to a high standard, interpret these data sets to others.
You will become a member of a lively, reactive team, you must be flexible in your approach and be able to adapt and manage your workload to changing demands.
- The team- Our Hydrometry & Telemetry team members are friendly, highly skilled and motivated and are responsible for the monitoring and collection of high-quality rainfall, surface and groundwater data from a range of sites across Devon, Cornwall & IoS. Hydrometry & Telemetry deliver a vital service that underpins much of the Environment Agency's statutory responsibilities relating to flood risk and water resources management therefore maintaining the network and data to the highest standard is essential.
- Experience/skills required- You will have a scientific or environmental background, be passionate about the environment and relish the opportunity to ‘make a difference’.
With strong practical problem-solving skills, you will be experienced in handling and managing data. Use of own initiative is essential.
You will have experience of hydrometry & telemetry instrumentation and systems, field work, lone working, water safety and risk assessment.
Good communication skills are a must as you will be required to interact effectively with the team, both internal and external customers and members of the public.
You must be able to swim and hold a current UK driving licence. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
