Assistant Buyer

Do you have a couple of years sourcing experience and are looking for a new challenge?

Our current vacancy of Assistant Buyer is a great opportunity for someone with 1-2 years’ sourcing experience to make a real impact on our business within our Direct Purchasing Team. Our Direct Purchasing Team sources and negotiates cost prices for the products we sell in our business.

With a team spend of around £30 million, you will support the Buyers to continuously improve our internal and external sourcing processes, leading to efficiencies and cost savings. You will also help the team by offering daily support with administrative tasks.

You will:

- Process new product information through our internal systems
- Update product pricing using the IFS system
- Action Engineer Change Notes
- Handle invoice queries
- Act as project support for the buyers in the team
- Run less complex projects with Buyers support
- Manage and develop suppliers through data collection and meetings

Supporting the Direct Purchasing Team with administrative tasks including but not limited to:

- Cost Savings Updates
- Inflation Information
- Sample Tracker
- Lists of products to be tested in our onsite lab
- Commodity tracking

Desirable knowledge and experience:

- Good negotiation, communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
- Able to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers including Far East
- Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks at once and to work well under pressure
- Good IT ability, confident using Microsoft Word and Excel (Smartsheet knowledge is also an advantage)
- Continuous improvement mind set and interest in progressing
- Able to think on your feet with a problem-solving approach, lateral thinking
- Proactive and positive with a “Can do” attitude
- Experience in a similar role is desirable (1-2 years)
- CIPS qualified, or willing to work towards the qualification
