Matron for NICU, SCBU, Transitional Care and Neonatal Community Outreach

We are looking for a Tertiary Level Neonatal Nurse with experience at Band 7 or above with significant experience of managing a busy NICU.

This is a new role as Hull University Teaching Hospital’s move towards a Mat-Neo model and an expansion of the neonatal environment and associated increase in neonatal staffing establishment.

This role will be a huge challenge resulting in an excellent service, which is currently commissioned to deliver 5 NICU, 7 HDU, 14 SCBU and 4 TC cots. The Matron role will support flow through the NICU/HDU for deliveries of under 27 weeks gestation including transfers in from across the Yorkshire & Humber Neonatal ODN and beyond. In addition the matron will support quicker, safer and earlier discharges through our SCBU/TC to home supported by the Neonatal Continuing Care Team.

This role will also incorporate working with timely transfers of care to the Children’s wards and early repatriation back to referring hospitals.

The Neonatal Matron will be responsible for the operational and clinical management of these services within the Neonatal service.

You will lead the nursing team whilst working under the line management of the Director of Midwifery and in conjunction with the Consultant medical teams. The expanded bed base will change to deliver 7 ICU, 10 HDU, 12 SCBU and 4 TC from early 2024.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for a forward thinking experienced individual whom will provide professional advice and support to speciality teams and service line colleagues ensuring delivery of the highest quality of patient care and service delivery.

You will have a high level of autonomy and will work in a self-directed way within the parameters set for the post.

Excellent leadership and communication skills are essential in this role as well as experience of creating successful partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and in the management of Human Resources.

The successful applicant must have high-level people management skills, including decision-making, negotiating, influencing and persuading skills. The post holder will provide a highly visible, accessible and authoritative presence and be available to patients, families and staff to provide assistance, advice and support and address any concerns as required.

The successful individual will contribute to the strategic direction of the service and specialities through meeting key performance indicators and national and local activity targets.
