**Salary**:£29,460 - £32,554 (Inclusive of £2,500 shift allowance)

**Reports on a day-to-day basis to **Security Co-ordinator Southend & Loughton

**Responsible for**:4 Security Officers

**Purpose of the job**:To assist and support the Security coordinator in undertaking operational delivery of day-to-day security services across Loughton and Loughton campuses according to University policies and local protocols and procedures.

**The main duties of the post will include**:
1. The post holder will work directly with the Security Co-Ordinator in assisting with the day-to-day operation of security services is provided 24/7 across Southend Campus. This includes all areas of business activities that are offered within the service and university.

2. To undertake a wide range of safety, welfare, security, physical Intervention, first-aid and car parking duties both within the University Campus and externally to university-owned and administered properties.

3. The role will take responsibility for assisting in the supervision of teams of Security Officers working within the University. Taking responsibility of their team of 5 officers in the absence of the Security Co-Ordinator. They will be assisted in the absence of the Co-Ordinator by the Deputy Head of Security & Campus Safety. To assist the Security management team with administration duties.

4. To assist with in-house training for all new Security Officers joining the team with familiarisation training, and assist the Security Co-Ordinator in the coaching, training, and development of the Security Officers in the team.

5. To assist the Security Management team in creating a customer-led culture amongst staff, students and the public. To act as a role model for Security Officers, to ensure that a professional approach is maintained when dealing with staff, students, visitors, and colleagues.

6. To encourage a sense of common purpose, a team approach, and a professional ethos among all officers within the team. To proactively demonstrate shared values and a commitment to delivering a high standard of service and support to a diverse group of customers.

7. This is a developmental role with a view to further progression within the section, and an essential link between the Management team and Security officers.

**Duties of the Post**:The duties of the post, some of which will require physical effort such as standing for long periods, climbing stairs, shift working, etc. will include the following:
**1. **Security reception desks**

To assist with, supervise and undertake security control room functions located at University Square Accommodation (Southend), The Gateway Building (Southend) and provide information and general assistance to staff, students and members of the public using University premises and facilities.
- To ensure the security reception desks are adequately staffed in order to provide CCTV, fire alarm panel and intercom monitoring.
- To review incoming telephone calls to the University out of office hours and ensure security team response is appropriate and risk based.
- To assist with the supervision, training and development of the security teamensuring, in conjunction with the Security Co-Ordinator, that services provided are professional and customer focussed at all times.
- To assist with and provide a corporate “Front of House Service” representative of the University of Essex.
- To ensure the security team develop a good knowledge of campus services and facilities to correctly advise staff, students, and visitors.
- To provide physical external security relevant to the campus buildings as directed.

**2. Residents Welfare**
- To liaise with other departments (e.g., Accommodation Office and Residence Life) to support students and staff.
- To respond to student and staff enquiries.
- To respond as appropriate to complaints in accommodation
- e.g. noise complaints, anti-social behaviour.
- To assist the Security Co-Ordinator, in advising the Security Officers in dealing with, and taking responsibility for those incidents that have been escalated.
- To assist with the management of systems to provide effective customer focussed services including programming of door entry key fobs, key cards and door re-programming in accommodation buildings and such other buildings as directed.
- In conjunction with other departments, provide a basic electrical investigation of trip switch failure.

**3. Personal and Physical Security**
