We are looking for a Wood Machinist at our Timber Specialist site in Taff’s Wells, Cardiff.

We are the largest independent builders’ merchant in South East Wales.

**What is a builders’ merchant?**

A builders’ merchant is a company which supplies materials to the construction sector.

Up to 85% of the built environment you see around you is supplied by Britain’s builders’ merchants. Merchants and the supply chain are crucial to the construction industry which contributes over £40 billion to the UK economy each year. A career in this essential commercial sector can be challenging, varied and rewarding.

**Hours**:
40 hours per week to be worked from Monday to Friday, between the hours 7:30am - 4:30pm.

**Pay**:
Negotiable according to experience.

**Duties**:

- To assist Sawyers in setting up machinery and instruct and monitor them on safety practice at work.
- To complete quality control checks on completed orders, processed by Sawyers.
- To check and sign off conversion paperwork, completed by Sawyers.
- To efficiently pick materials for milling, with the aim of minimising the cost of manufacturing, whilst achieving the required specification of the finished product.
- Maintain a clean working environment and worktop tools at all times.

**Essential Skills**:

- 2 years’ experience in wood mill or similar role.
- Naturally tidy and organised.
- High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Able to follow instructions and work unsupervised with initiative.
- A proven team player.
- Manual handling up to 25kg.
- A confident communicator with a willingness to engage with customers and provide good service.

**Desirable**:

- An interest in the construction and retail industries.
