- Job description- This role is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to develop a career in land contamination and hydrogeology. We are looking for a competent individual to contribute to protecting and enhancing our valuable groundwater resource across Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire.
Proven work or academic experience in the field of land contamination, site investigation, hydrogeology is desirable for this position.
Your role will include giving advice to local planning authorities on brownfield developments or developments that may pose a risk to future groundwater resources. You will work with and provide advice to other functions of the Environment Agency relating to the investigation and clean-up of environmental incidents. You will also work with our National Permitting Service to provide technical advice to determine permits to abstract groundwater and discharge to ground. There will be opportunities to develop into other areas of the team’s work.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and workplace adjustments will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team- The Groundwater and Contaminated Land team is a multifunctional team that provides expert advice and technical support to a variety of Environment Agency departments. We also working closely with external partners such as Water Companies, Environmental Consultants, Local Authorities and Universities.
- Experience/skills required- You will be a competent and experienced person who is versatile, self-motivated and can quickly fit in and contribute to the work of our busy team. You will:
- Hold an appropriate undergraduate degree in a relevant science discipline such as environmental science, geology, hydrogeology, or geochemistry.
- Have relevant experience that has given you skills to bring to this role. A relevant post graduate qualification would be beneficial but not essential.
- Membership of a relevant professional body will be beneficial but is not essential as you will be supported and encouraged to become chartered.
- Have excellent conceptualisation skills and ability to think in 3D.
- Experience of hydrogeological data and information management
- Be able to present clear, well-reasoned arguments based on your technical and regulatory understanding.
- Be able to work as a team and across different departments.
- Have a full UK Driving Licence
