Housing Support Worker

**About Us**
The role of the Housing Support Worker will engage with our care leavers who are homeless or at risk of being homeless, providing intensive support to help them to prioritise their housing needs and ensure they understand their housing options and best matches that will offer them a good housing pathway. The purpose is to provide practical support to our care leavers by attending meetings, helping them with budgeting and understanding how they are better equipped to maintain a tenancy and address their homelessness difficulties.
**This is a grant funded post. The position is currently funded for a further 6 months. The 6 months will start from the start date of the successful applicant to the post. We are informed we should be informed later in the year if this will be extended again for a further 1 or 2 years.**
**About The Job** Salary**: £23,484 to £25,927***
**Working Pattern**: Full Time (37 hours)
**Contract Length**: Fixed Term for 6 months from start date.
**Location**: Available base across any of our West Sussex offices/flexibility to work from home on some days.
**Closing Date: Sunday 2nd October**
Working alongside the Personal Advisor (PA’s) you will be required to support Young People considered homeless or threatened with homelessness. Identify opportunities for homeless prevention and address any barriers to resettlement or sustaining accommodation through creative and pragmatic solution focused interventions.
There will sometimes be a requirement to work after office hours to assist with urgent housing matters. The role requires the postholder to be able to travel throughout the County, including to locations that are not always easily accessible by public transport.
**Experience and Skills** Key Skills**:
- Ability to work effectively with care leavers in crisis, managing own and others’ anxieties and working within the boundaries of the role, focussing on their collective strengths and resources e.g. using a solution focussed approach.
- Ability to manage casework with young people and their support networks establishing needs, setting objectives and reviewing progress.
- Ability to engage and work creatively in partnership with young people, their support networks and partner organisations including housing providers and education, in order to effect positive and lasting change
- Ability to analyse and interpret complex information and prioritise needs in order to make recommendations/decisions which will have a positive outcome
- Ability to organise and present information clearly, concisely and accurately in ways that promote understanding, both verbally and in written form
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills in order to interact effectively with a range of clients and other professionals and create effective working relationships
**Qualifications/Experience**:
- NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care with housing experience or equivalent qualification/experience, demonstrating an understanding of housing legislation and impact on housing options for young people who are at risk of homelessness.
- Ability to work in partnership with young people and or families who are experiencing housing issues with risk of homelessness.
- Valid and full driving licence
- Experience of direct work with young people and or families.
- Experience of working directly with young people and or families at risk of homelessness
- Experience of working in a multi-agency context, demonstrating an awareness of differing roles and responsibilities and effective methods of collaboration
- Experience of using a range of direct work interventions in crisis situations, working with young people and their families and or support networks
