This is a 6 month fixed term contract opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist to work within level 3 and level 2 Neonatal Units at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The post holder will be an experienced Speech and Language Therapist with advanced skills in the field of paediatric dysphagia. working with the Clinical Specialist SLT in Neonatology, this role provides input to a caseload of infants and children with feeding/swallowing issues on the Neonatal units at St Mary’s and Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital sites, and occasional clinical cover to the acute paediatric wards at St Mary’s Hospital. The post holder will receive clinical supervision from the Clinical Specialist SLT in Neonatology. This clinical role includes working closely with the Neonatal multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide a specialist service to infants, supporting their feeding journey. As part of the embedded Neonatal therapies team, the post holder will provide specialist training to colleagues within Neonatal services, supporting delivery of FICare and BFI attainment. The post holder will be involved in discharge planning, ensuring a seamless transfer to SLT colleagues and services in the community. The post holder will be able to manage their caseload and workload independently, providing a service based on clinical need to both sites. You will be a key member of the Children’s SLT team at ICHT and will contribute to the overall development of the service,.
The Specialist Speech and Language Therapist will provide a specialist assessment, differential diagnosis and treatment service for infants on the Neonatal Units at Queen Charlotte and Chelsea Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital. This will require the post holder to:
Demonstrate highly specialist knowledge in acute paediatric/neonatal dysphagia underpinned by evidence based practice.
Communicate complex condition-related information from the assessment to parents/carers, families and members of the multi-disciplinary team/other professions via attendance at MDT ward rounds, case conferences and discharge planning meetings as required, enabling well-coordinated care plans.
Be flexible to balance the fluctuating needs of the neonatal caseload on both sites.
Demonstrate clinical effectiveness through the use of evidence based practice and outcome measures
Participate in the development and delivery of specialist teaching/training to the multidisciplinary team within the Trust.
Demonstrate the ability to identify own strengths and development needs and reflect on clinical practice with peers and mentors.
Take a delegated lead and participate in specific service developments within neonatology.
