Job Introduction
**We are looking for a Care Worker to join our team at The Northstar Performing Arts Day Centre.**

The Centre is open Monday to Thursday between 8:30am - 4:30pm and Friday between 8.30am - 4.00pm. The Centre provides care and support for adults with learning difficulties.
- Location: The Northstar Centre, St Marys, Castlegate, Berwick upon Tweed, TD15 1DX, based at Northern View (Berwick)Ltd, Spittal, Berwick upon Tweed, TD15 2JU.
- Salary: £24,294 - £25,979 FTE (pro rata for part time employees)
- Contract type: Permanent / Part Time - 30 hours.

The successful applicant will be expected to promote the wellbeing, self-confidence, and independence of our service users, providing activities that meet service users' needs and interests, create opportunities for social contact and learning opportunities supporting service users to access and make best use of local community facilities.

In your day-to-day duties you will be expected to provide care and support to the service users who attend the The NorthStar Performing Arts Day Centre assisting the supervisory team in the delivery of the Centre's timetable of activities. You will be expected to meet clients' intimate and personal needs and to maintain their privacy and dignity at all times. You will administer medication in accordance with medical advice and service procedures observing best practice.

Training will be provided.

**About the centre**:
Being a Care Worker is not all about personal care and medication. We have lots of fun at the The Northstar Performing Arts Day Centre

You will be expected to work with other staff in supporting our service users in the following activities:
In our Drama session (Way Up North), you will need to be active, creative, patient and not take yourself too seriously, because you will be expected to support and encourage our service users to fully express themselves in a variety of performing arts, including music, dance and drama.
- Our aim is to enable and empower our service users to achieve their full potential in an individual and personal centered way. We provide a safe and stimulating space where service users can socialise with their friends, have fun, express themselves freely and widen their field of acquaintances.
- We put on shows, musicals, pantos, which are performed at our Centre and outside venues, including the local theatre.
- You should have an interest in music, as we have a Drumming session (The Shindiggers), in this session our service users experience a wide range of music and are well known locally through their amazing performances in the community. This makes them feel valued and part of the community
- We run other sessions in Makaton/Musical Theatre (sign language) to promote better communication with our service users who have communication needs.
- We combine Makaton and music to interpret the feelings of songs through expression and movement. You will be given basic Makaton training. We also run Health & Wellbeing, as we understand the importance of having support for health and wellbeing, in these sessions we discuss personal care, health and hygiene, diet and nutrition and the importance of exercise. We make them interesting, fun, and interactive.
- Our Service users are involved in choosing the songs, plays and other activities that are held in our centre. The relationships between our staff and service users are very respectable and our service users trust us. We also have a good relationship with our parent/carers.
- We expect you to be a team player to join our fun and creative staff team who work hard to support our service users and make sure that they have a wonderful and enjoyable experience at Northstar. The high standard of activities we produce at Northstar are a testament to our commitment to the service and our service users. You will act as a keyworker and will be expected to maintain appropriate written records ensuring that all interested parties are kept aware of Service Users circumstances and report any concerns/issues promptly advising supervisor staff/management of any change to care and support arrangements for the service user.
