**Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist**: Adult rotational post

Full-time (37.5 hours) post based within West Suffolk Hospital Foundation Trust, Bury St Edmunds.

We have an exciting opportunity for a band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join our team. We are a fully integrated team across acute and community providing a seamless service for the population of West Suffolk. We are a friendly and dynamic team with well-established rotations across specialties and a strong supervision and support network for staff. We are fully integrated within the wider AHP teams with opportunities to work within fully integrated multidisciplinary teams.

You will have excellent interpersonal communication with good problem-solving skills and enjoy working as part of a team. You will be expected to work independently but to seek professional support and supervision from senior colleagues where necessary. Regular clinical supervision is provided. This post is appropriate for newly qualified Speech and Language Therapists or those wishing to expand their knowledge and skill base. We offer a multidisciplinary preceptorship programme, high quality clinical supervision as well as regular opportunities for peer supervision.

The SALT team is an expanding and dynamic team who are committed to professional development and evidence-based practice. This demonstrated through regular departmental and joint training sessions, the employment of new initiatives and the constant review and improvement of services. We have a strong programme of in-service training and regular journal club meetings.

**Job responsibilities**:
CLINICAL

To provide a generalist level of expertise in the assessment and management of patients with acquired communication and/or swallowing difficulties referred to the West Suffolk speech and language therapy department in a variety of settings including inpatient, outpatient or other community settings such as the patient’s own home.

To assess, by case history taking and using detailed formal and informal assessment methods and materials including manual examination, adults who have been referred to the Speech and Language Therapy Service.

To use assessment findings to provide differential diagnosis and to determine treatment options for the client group.

To provide timely information, written and verbal, and advice regarding diagnosis, treatment aims and progress of patients to referrers, clients, carers and other professional staff, taking into account confidentiality and the complex and sensitive nature of the information imparted, and the needs of the recipients.

To formulate and implement therapy programmes for patients, involving the use of specific techniques and remediation programmes, reflecting best practice and current clinical guidelines.

To devise work programmes for individuals and groups and liaise with and guide staff and carers over their implementation.

To seek clinical and non-clinical advice and support from senior colleagues as required.

To refer on to and work with other agencies/professionals as appropriate.

To liaise and work alongside appropriate voluntary agencies in respect of particular clients and client groups.

To direct and supervise the work of rehabilitation assistants/speech and language therapy assistants according to level of experience for specific patients/individuals..
