Building on the work that our Chief Pharmacist has introduced this role will lead on the delivery of medication safety across the Trust, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team ensuring the safe, effective and efficient use of medicines across all clinical grades.

This role is new to the Trust and will be responsible for the medication safety agenda including monitoring systems and provision of information to support a reduction in avoidable harm resulting from inappropriate medicines use across the Trust. You will develop and implement strategies for improving medication safety issues across the Trust and ensure appropriate investigation of medication incidents, including root cause analysis if necessary.

- To undertake the role as Medication Safety Officer (MSO) for SECAmb; this comprises the 999 and 111 Integrated Urgent Care (IUC) services.
- Develop and maintain quality assurance and quality management systems for pharmacy services and medicines optimisation within the Trust.
- The post holder will require a detailed understanding of medicines use, patient safety, a record of experience in pre-hospital medicine, non-medical prescribing and urgent care pathways.
- Lead and oversee programme of work to manage medicines shortages.
- To input into the use of digital solutions available to improve the safety of medicines use, support the implementation, maintenance and monitoring of pharmacy information systems including electronic prescribing system (EPS)
- Lead on the quality improvement programme for the pharmacy department, supporting internal and external benchmarking activities and facilitating pharmacy practice research.
- To develop, monitor and implement the Trust strategy around medication safety through clinical leadership.
- To improve reporting and learning of medication error incidents in the organisation and outside.
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team on medication safety which would identify themes or trends with medicines incidents and oversee development and deployment of appropriate action plans and advise risk management where reporting could be improved.
