Role description:
As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for an EIA Technical Lead. You will be a Technical Director with excellent EIA capability and proven experience of delivering complex EIAs across multiple sectors. You will have a strong ability to integrate the EIA and consenting processes to secure positive outcomes for clients. You will be a Chartered Environmentalist and Full Member of IEMA with a passion for driving innovation and continuous improvement across EIA delivery.

The role is responsible for providing strategic direction for our EIA delivery across the UK. You will provide the strategic, national oversight for how EIA is delivered driving consistency and high-quality outputs. You will also work with the EP technical excellence lead and our technical discipline leads to evolve how we deliver our EIAs against a changing policy and regulatory context. You will lead the delivery of our complex EIAs as well as providing strategic oversight and direction to projects, pursuits and relevant propositions. You will also take an active role in mentoring staff and growing our EIA capability including from a digital perspective.

The team works on a diverse range of projects including large scale energy and infrastructure, rail, highways, water and defence projects, mixed-use development schemes for both private and public clients, public realm and masterplanning projects as well as more small-scale projects that require a nimble and agile approach. You will play a key role in the successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects across the UK / worldwide.

Role accountabilities:

- Leading the EIA capability and working with the Senior Leadership Team and Planning, Environmental Assessment and Management Lead to drive recruitment and growth of the EIA capability including succession planning
- Driving the quality of EIA delivery across the UK through approval of project deliverables and establishment of best practice
- Work with our EIA Community of Practice leads to establish Arcadis as the UK’s leading EIA business
- Oversee EIA bidding and project delivery to ensure continued high-quality outputs
- Drive EIA business development activities through participation in external market profile raising activities and functions, and through involvement with key clients.
- Owning key EIA client relationships and growing internal relationships to optimise cross-selling opportunities
- Working with the Environmental Planning sector leads to ensure that our EIA processes reflect sector specific requirements
- Proactively work with our digital team to drive the digitisation of the end-to-end EIA process
- Overview of commercial performance of EIA projects including areas for improvement and efficiency
- Obtain regular feedback from clients on our EIA performance to drive continuous improvement
- Driving the response to emerging policy and regulatory changes within the fields of EIA and consenting
- Managing projects, overseeing our performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety
- Provide mentoring and line management to EIA staff
- Provide EIA training to grow EIA capability across the business

Qualifications & Experience:

- Experience across multiple sectors and all stages of the project life cycle including strategic optioneering, single option development, EIA, requirements discharge post consent and detailed design and construction.
- Excellent working knowledge of the UK EIA and planning systems including EIA practices and procedures, case law as well as a solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and environmental technical specialisms
- Proven track record of delivering projects across multiple consenting regimes including Development Consent Orders, Transport and Works act Orders, Town and Country Planning Act, Hybrid Bill etc.
