With demonstrable qualifications or experience, you’ll be an analytical, strategic thinker with a firm understanding of economic regulation. You’ll have excellent, well-rounded communication skills and proven qualitative and quantitative analytical experience. Combined with a knowledge of the energy sector you’ll effectively build relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, see linkages between various areas of the organisation and efficiently review economic models.

**Job description**:
Purpose

The Economist role has opened up in the Analytical Quality (AQ) team within the Office for Research and Economics (ORE). The ORE supports and strengthens Ofgem's analysis, helps policies to be more consumer-focused and develops the analytical skills of our staff. The ORE is made up of three teams, including the Analytical Quality, Analytical Strategy and Development and Consumer and Behavioural Insights.

Key Responsibilities
- Carry out high quality analysis
- Draft reports or parts of reports
- Contribute to knowledge sharing, including showcasing our analytical skills, and developing links with economists inside and outside the organisation
- Participate in Ofgem’s economist recruitment activities
- Potentially manage external consultants

Key Outputs and Deliverables
- Provide advice on appraisal, impact assessments, and policy analysis and evaluation
- Undertake analysis of qualitative or quantitative data for the purposes of producing evidence for policy advice.
- Review economic models, challenge input data and assumptions and interpret output data
- Ensure that all assumptions are transparently presented with results and that key risks and sensitivities are assessed
- Contribute to producing both internal and external documents
- Facilitate effective internal and external stakeholder engagement, specifically presenting or communicating analysis in ways which non-economists can readily understand.

**Person specification**:

- ** A degree in Economics, or relevant experience in economics or quantitative analysis roles**:

- ** Excellent analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative**:

- Knowledge and experience in econometrics or statistics
- Ability to simplify and analyse complex concepts and communicate them effectively both in written papers and oral presentations
- Experience of managing and working effectively with diverse sets of stakeholders
