As our **Health, Safety & Welfare Officer**,** **you** **will maintain a safe and healthy environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The post holder's responsibilities typically encompass a wide range of tasks aimed at preventing accidents, ensuring compliance with regulations, and promoting a culture of safety on campus

**Responsibilities of our** **Health, Safety & Welfare Officer**:

- Developing, implementing, and reviewing health and safety policies and procedures that align with legal regulations and industry standards.
- Identifying potential hazards and risks across the campus environment, including classrooms, laboratories, workshops, sports facilities, and offices. Conducting regular risk assessments to evaluate and mitigate these risks.
- Organising and providing training sessions and workshops for students, faculty, and staff on topics such as emergency procedures, proper use of equipment, chemical safety, and ergonomic practices.
- Developing and updating emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, medical emergency protocols, and communication strategies in case of incidents or a crisis.
- Fostering a culture of safety awareness and responsibility by engaging with the college community, organising safety campaigns, and encouraging reporting of potential hazards.
- Provide basic first aid, coordinating medical response, and managing medical emergencies until professional medical personnel arrive.
- Staying up-to-date with health and safety regulations, laws, and codes relevant to the college setting and ensuring compliance with these regulations.
- Keeping accurate records of safety-related incidents, inspections, training sessions, and any corrective actions taken. Providing reports to college administration and regulatory bodies as required.
- Collaborating with fire departments and other authorities to develop fire safety plans, conduct fire drills, and ensure that fire suppression systems and equipment are in working condition.
- Ensuring that appropriate personal protective equipment is available and used correctly where needed, and providing guidance on its proper usage.

**What we’re looking for in our** **Health, Safety & Welfare Officer**:

- GCSE English & Maths Grade C/ 2 or equivalent
- NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) Certificate
- Demonstrable experience in a health and safety role, preferably within an educational institution or similar environment
- Sound knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to upholding high standards of health and safety.
- Approachable and empathetic, fostering a positive health and safety culture.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
