An exciting opportunity is available in the Department of Surgical Specialties at Morriston Hospital to work as a Fellow in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery.

General Surgery Services at Swansea Bay University Health Board are provided for the local populations (over 500,000 residents) of Swansea, Neath, Port Talbot and South Powys; and tertiary services are provided to the wider population of Mid and SW Wales (population 1,000,000). The Department of General Surgery is a tertiary centre for colorectal, pancreatic cancer, bariatric surgery and complex abdominal wall reconstruction.

You will provide a clinical service in conjunction with your colleagues under the direction of a Consultant Surgeon, which will include the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness. This post will provide advanced laparoscopic colorectal skills along with other regular colorectal procedures. There is additional experience available with gynae-oncology ovarian cancer cyto
- reductive surgery and gynae pelvic oncology.

The Health Board is the largest in Wales and one of the largest in the UK, employing around 12,000 staff and has an annual budget of more than £770 million. The Health Board has three major hospitals: Morriston Hospital, Singleton Hospital in Swansea, and Neath Port Talbot Hospital in Baglan.

Located in South Wales the City and County of Swansea offers a mixture of dramatic coastline, areas of natural outstanding beauty and a 3 hourly rail link to London.

You will be required to contribute to the general surgical inpatients, day cases and out patients, with an appropriate level of consultant supervision according to your level of experience.

You will be expected to be able to undertake simple and routine general surgical procedures independently.
