**Estate Gardener**

**Salary £19-£23k per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. Full-time, 40 hours per week (Mon-Fri 8am-4pm)**

This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic and enthusiastic Estate Gardener to join the Garden Team in the day to day running of the gardens and grounds on a beautiful family estate near Chippenham.

The seventeenth century house is set within ornamental parkland with mature trees, shrubs and wildflower meadows. The wider parkland of this 1000-acre estate embraces a lake and a series of ponds, created meadows & hedgerows, sheep-grazed grassland and is flanked by ancient woodland and rare lowland heathland. The ethos of the estate lies in nurturing habitat and ecology within the landscape to support biodiversity, so an interest in nature conservation is essential.

**The position would suit someone (perhaps recently qualified) with**:

- an energetic & strong work ethic and a willingness to learn, coupled with a passion for trees & plants
- experience of garden machinery

This role entails a significant amount of physical work and requires you to work in all weather conditions; you will have a keen eye for detail and great observational skills.

**The role comprises a range of practical tasks including**:

- tree & hedgerow planting & maintenance, pruning and coppicing
- lawn & grassland maintenance using ride-on, pedestrian & flail mowers
- pond maintenance
- perennial weed management
- maintenance of electric and wooden fencing

As a hands-on Estate Gardener on this unique project you’ll work closely with seven other gardeners to ensure that the gardens, parkland, woodland programme, meadows & habitat projects are maintained to a high standard, and are managed sympathetically to increase biodiversity.

You will be required to communicate effectively with the wider estate team, estate management and estate owners so a professional attitude is important. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is a full, clean UK driving licence.

Good plant knowledge - RHS Qualification considered an advantage

A minimum of 2 years experience within the gardening /estate work sector

Experience in the use of powered equipment - ride-on mowers, hedgecutters, strimmers, leafblowers

PA1 & PA6 spraying licence - considered an advantage
