Key responsibilities of the role include:

- Leading the curriculum development and implementation across Key Stage 3 and 4, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning is delivered.
- Developing and delivering the academic music curriculum, ensuring it is engaging, challenging and relevant to our students.
- Preparing and leading on curriculum-based events/trips/concerts both in and out of School
- Manage departmental resources and budgets in conjunction with Foundation Director of Music and/or Foundation Director of Instrumental Studies

With 2,300 students on site, Bolton School is one of the largest independent day schools in the country. It is situated a mile or so from the town centre in a pleasant wooded campus, surrounded by 32 acres of playing fields. Serving a wide area of the North West through more than 20 coach routes. The School has for many years offered some form of fee assistance to a substantial proportion of its pupils. At present, 1 in 6 boys have fee assistance. The school prides itself not only on its academic tradition, but on the immense range of other activities which are vigorously pursued both in and beyond the school day.

**THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT**:
The Music Department consists of an overall Foundation Head of Music who manages a team of three full time members of staff and a full time Head of Instrumental Studies, who has responsibility for the line management of the visiting instrumental and vocal teachers who work in the Boys' Division, and for the organisation of ensembles. In both divisions there is a Head of Academic Music who organise the curriculum for Y7-11.

The Department consists of two large teaching rooms, two computer suites and a series of smaller rooms used as offices or for peripatetic lessons. Some of the peripatetic teachers are based in the Arts Centre, which is shared with the Girls' Division. There is a great deal of collaboration with the Girls’ Division including shared teaching at A-level alongside a busy extra-curricular programme of concerts and rehearsals.

There are healthy numbers at GCSE and A Level music and results have been excellent over recent years. The boys study the AQA syllabus at GCSE and A Level. The Boys' Division has a busy schedule of concerts which includes the Junior School Christmas Concert, the Senior School Christmas Festival, Autumn, Spring and Summer Concerts, Musical Evenings and regular concerts in the local community.

**THE POST**:
We hope to appoint an experienced Teacher of Music who is able to lead and manage the delivery of academic music for years 7-11 and add to and complement the strengths of the department. The successful applicant will be a strong classroom practitioner who is able to infuse others with a love for Music and to inspire the outstandingly able boys as well as to nurture those far less confident in their Musical ability. A willingness to contribute to the extra-curricular life of the School is essential, with all staff playing a part in this important aspect of the school.
