The Regulatory Economist will also provide active support to the Senior Regulatory Economist to strengthen our economic regulatory expertise (in particular around tariff modelling) and help influence regulators, to lay out the best possible foundations for a favourable PR24 price review process.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Provide support to the Senior Regulatory Economist in managing and operating Affinity Water’s economic models (typically MS Excel worksheets), to analyse the regulatory consequences of the company’s actual and expected performances.
- Take responsibility for setting wholesale and retail tariffs in compliance with regulatory requirements around charges (including in meeting requirements from external assurance ance providers).
- Provide active support to the Senior Regulatory Economist and our Developers Team in setting and managing our Developer Charges’ tariff models.
- Develop and maintain an expert understanding of Economic Regulatory principles of the water industry. Use this growing expertise to brief Senior Managers and colleagues on compliance and regulatory performance matters (for example around Ofwat’s Annual Performance Reporting requirements).
- Provide information, analysis and expert advice on Economic Regulatory requirements and advise on how to optimise performance against those requirements.
- Provide support in analysing and drafting resopnses to consultation papers issued by Regulators and advie senior managers and colleagues across the business on implications for the company.
- Supporting company’s response to regulatory submissions and information requests.
- Provide support to the Senior Regulatory Economist in assessing regulatory requirements in the competitive business retail market and Ofwat’s ‘new markets’ (including self-lay providers) and Direct Procurement processes.

**Experience required**

Degree level qualification preferably in economics, or related analytical discipline

Ideally with experience in economic regulation within the water sector, other regulated utility, regulatory body or consultancy.

Highly competent in analytical, conceptual and strategic thinking

Able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing to colleagues, including senior managers and non-specialist audiences.

Intellectual curiosity and willingness to take initiative.
