A new post is being created to manage and co-ordinate the research and innovation activity at the Open Innovation Hub for Antimicrobial Surfaces directed by Professor Rasmita Raval. The Hub provides capability and expertise in developing advanced surface and materials technologies to deliver anti-microbial, anti-biofilm and anti-viral properties. The post will support projects associated with relevant programmes under the directorship of Professor Raval e.g. the National Biofilm Innovation Centre (NBIC) and the iiCON network funded under the Strength in Places Fund.

You will be required to engage with existing collaborators, drive engagement and help develop new business activity. You will be responsible for co-ordinating innovation and research activities and ensuring that the group members are working together effectively. You will also contribute to the development of short to long term research strategy, prioritising activities and organising complex work streams.
You will be technically proficient and be able to run proof of concept and longer research projects. In addition, they must be able to assist in the writing of publications, research proposals and reports for funding bodies. You will also ensure that operational financial systems in the group align with those in the School of Physical Sciences and the Faculty.

This is a unique position that would suit an individual who has a passion for innovation and research, technical expertise and a talent for organising a complex stream of activities.

You should be highly self-motivated and have a PhD in Chemistry, Microbiology, BioPhysics or any other field relating to the research activities of the Hub.

**Summary of Duties**:
Work closely with Professor Raval as a central contact for research and innovation.
Engage with external collaborators to develop statements of work.
Drive business engagement through outreach activities.
Help develop research objectives and formulate new ideas for group or collaborative research.
Co-ordinate collaborative research projects.
Contribute to the overall strategy and management of the research team and its projects.
Co-ordinate research group data for Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and ResearchFish reporting as required by funding bodies; implementing new systems where required.
Participate in group meetings and discussions providing a comprehensive overview where required.
Undertake other duties commensurate with the grade as required.
This role will support the NBIC, iiCON and other Research and Innovation programmes that are run under the Directorship of Professor Raval and which involve partnership with regional and national centres of excellence and industry.

You should have excellent interpersonal, communication and team building skills with the ability to drive and co-ordinate technical/science/innovation activities in the group, ensure project timelines are adhered to within the financial framework and delivered on time, engage with industrial companies and healthcare professionals and assist with business development activities maintaining a high level of confidentiality. You must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, reliable and have the ability to work well with other members of the team and collaborators.
