**Core Purpose**:
The Curriculum Manager is responsible for the development of highly individualised, accredited and non-accredited curriculum for post-16 learners who have severe or profound learning difficulties, mild - moderate learning difficulties, complex physical disabilities and medical conditions. The post-holder is additionally responsible for developing the teaching team across the college to ensure a high standard of performance and professional knowledge and an atmosphere of high expectations for our complex learners.

**Key responsibilities**:
**Strategic leadership**

The Curriculum Manager will:
1. Demonstrate an awareness of the strategic positioning of the college and use this knowledge to inform decision-making in own area.

2. Demonstrate passion and enthusiasm for the continuing education of people with learning difficulties and disabilities and ensure that the John Dewey vision and mission statements are fully embedded in our workplace culture and our values promoted in everything we do.

3. Actively promote and demonstrate creativity, innovation and flexibility in achieving job aims.

4. Be highly familiar with the requirements of Ofsted and other regulatory bodies in relation to the college and its wider services.

5. Be highly familiar with FE funding mechanisms and have experience of preparing Individual Learner Returns (ILRs) and negotiating high needs funding with local authorities.

6. Working with local stakeholders, ensure that John Dewey Specialist College promotes real-life inclusion and the value of people with learning disabilities at all times.

**Leading the Curricula**:
The Curriculum Manager will:
7. Lead and manage staff effectively and efficiently, including line management of the college’s teaching team.

8. Promote excellence in teaching and learning by setting high expectations for staff and learners, developing an outstanding curriculum provision and ensuring that all learners within their area of responsibility have an excellent quality learning experience.

9. Monitor the quality of teaching and learning across all programmes, in conjunction with the senior leadership team and ensure that all delivery staff are clear, focused and supported to deliver high quality teaching and learning.

10. Plan and implement arrangements for the selection, admission and transition of learners to ensure all learners receive the best quality advice and guidance at the start and end of their learning programmes.

11. Cooperate with the Head of Learner Experience (HoLE) to interview, assess and plan for the needs of incoming students through the production of student support plans, including identifying any support needs for which additional training or support staff are required and passing this information to the Principal.

12. Ensure that all learners receive thorough initial and diagnostic assessment, including their literacy and numeracy needs, and that individual learning plans are clear and effective in supporting learner progression.

13. Ensure that learning support is effectively integrated into classroom provision and that learning support is delivered efficiently, in cooperation with the HoLE.

14. Coordinate with the Principal and HoLE to annually timetable all college provision, including the allocation of support staff to teaching groups or learners.

15. Teach on appropriate courses for a minimum of 170 hours of the course of an academic year.

16. Ensure that learners’ progress is reviewed regularly including statutory annual reviews.

17. Implement and review the college’s audit systems, including RARPA systems in line with sector best practice, and where required, internal / external verification for accredited programmes.

18. Lead and manage specific programmes as allocated, and develop innovative new curricula offers to meet the needs of young people with learning difficulties and disabilities locally and coherently within the North London area.

19. Liaise and work with colleagues to market and promote the college’s provision effectively.

**Other Responsibilities**

The Curriculum Manager will also be expected to:
