The Lake District Calvert Trust is a charity that challenge disability through outdoor adventure. We provide fun-filled outdoor adventure for all, with our adapted equipment and specialist knowledge, offering an experience like no other to people with disabilities, their friends and family.

**ABOUT THE ROLE**:
The position of Groom is an integral position within The Lake District Calvert Trust team, working closely with our visitors and participants to ensure that they reach their potential through challenging activities in the countryside.
To be successful, you will need to be an enthusiastic team player who is patient and able to effectively communicate. You will be an experienced groom, minimum British Horse Society - Stage 2 or equivalent.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- General yard and horse management duties, ensuring that yard standards and operating procedures are met.
- Responsibility for riding and trap driving sessions and helping to ensure our visitors have an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
- Assisting with the exercising and schooling of the horse.
- Responsibility for the yard when the Deputy and Stables Manager are not on Site.
- Assisting training our volunteers.
- Undertaking other duties relevant to the post as requested by the Stable Manager or Centre Director.

**Qualifications & Experience**
**Essential**
- Minimum British Horse Society Stage 2, NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification/experience.
- British Horse Society Riding and Road Safety qualification (or be able to take it).
- Interest or experience of working with driving horses.
- Interest or experience of working with people with disabilities.
- Excellent Interpersonal skills.
- The experience and skills to meet our high standards of horse care.
- The ability to work within a team of staff and volunteers.
- A high level of flexibility, motivation, enthusiasm and dedication.
**Desirable**
- Driving licence
**Conditions of Service**
It is a requirement of employment with the Trust that you have had both doses of an approved COVID vaccine as our Calvert Reconnections service is a CQC regulated residential care home.
This role requires considerable flexibility, enthusiasm and dedication. Commitment and an appropriate work ethos are essential to ensure certain functions are completed within defined timescales for the smooth operation of the organisation.
**Contract**:This position is permanent after the successful completion of a 6-month probationary period.
**Hours**: 40 hours per week, approximately 8am - 6pm, 5 days per week, 40 hours per week (includes weekend work)
**Holidays**:28 days per annum, including Bank Holidays. An additional day’s annual leave is accrued for each year’s service up to a maximum of five additional days. Up to 10 days are required to be taken over the Christmas closedown period.
**Pension**:The Trust operates an occupational pension scheme with defined contributions, the National Employment Savings Trust (NEST) and for eligible and non-eligible jobholders enrolled in the scheme both the employer and the employee will make a contribution. Eligible jobholders, as defined by the legislation, will be automatically enrolled into NEST, unless you decide to opt-out.

**Health, Safety and Environment**
- Act responsibly in relation to all matters which may affect the Health and Safety of yourselves and travelling between sites, and to adhere to safety regulations at all times
- Observe all safety procedures and instructions, and assist in maintaining a safe workplace and reporting any accidents, hazards, near misses, damages or defects to tools and equipment to the appropriate person
- Wear appropriate protective equipment (PPE) and use any safety devices provided by the Trust at the relevant times
Report (and deal with, where relevant) any safety hazards, defects, near-misses or health and safety problems immediately
