Lancing College is seeking to appoint a College Marshal. This role will be both pupil-facing (managing the supervision of groups of pupils in the afternoon and evening in the Café and about the site) and will play a vital role within the College’s security team. 

**Job Title**: College Marshal

**Reporting To**: The Bursar and Senior Deputy Head

**Key Tasks and Responsibilities**
- Much of the role will involve working in a supervisory and guiding capacity with groups of children during non-lesson times (e.g. supervision of the Café and the Quads, being a roving presence around the grounds). 
- The College Marshal will work closely with the Security and Transport Manager and the Assistant Head (Pastoral) and will assist the Security and Transport Manager in ensuring the security of the site.  
- The College Marshal will be responsible for the administration, running and supervision of Extra Duties.
- During term time the College Marshal will assume responsibility for the emergency security phone every third week.  
- The College Marshal will make themselves available during their hours of work to assist with any reasonable request that does not adversely impact on other duties.  
- The role is one which requires flexibility and the smooth and calm management of key areas in the school and willingness to work with a range of people in ensuring the safety and security of pupils and staff.  
- The College Marshal will be called upon to help with the running of College events.   



**Person Specification**

We are seeking a highly reliable individual who has experience working with children and young people and who has a natural authority but is also warm and approachable.

**Requirements**:
The applicant must:

- Be adept at communication with pupils, staff and parents.
- Have a natural authority but also be warm and approachable.
- Be a team-worker, and a self-starter, who can take initiative.
- Be calm, decisive and a good ambassador for the school.
- Be efficient and able to manage time and priorities to best effect.
- Be physically fit, able to manage a role which requires physical stamina and significant coverage of our large estate on foot.
- Possess a driving license.
- Have excellent verbal communication skills and good written communication skills.
- Be able to make judgement calls and to work across a range of situations.
- Be IT literate with an ability to use Word, Outlook and Excel. Training will be given in all the relevant College IT systems.

**Desirable criteria**:

- Possess a First Aid At Work qualification.
- Ability to drive a minibus.
