We are an Ofsted “Good” rated local authority and in a recent Focussed Visit in September 2021, inspectors told us:
“Gateshead's highly skilled, committed and caring social workers and their managers in the front door teams provide sensitive, innovative child-centered help and protection to most children seen during the visit. Continuously strong, ambitious and effective senior leadership has resulted in sustained improvements.

Closely aligned, mature professional partnerships work together effectively to safeguard children from harm.

There is consistent and commendable evidence of continuous innovation and improvement during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Senior leaders are fittingly proud of their staff's commitment and determination throughout this period to see vulnerable children and their families face to face.

Staff report that they feel valued in their work and professional development and that their personal well-being is prioritised.”

You will hold a relevant family support related qualification (early years, youth work, youth justice, social work, housing support, etc) at Level 3 or equivalent and have significant demonstrable experience in a field related to family support. You will understand safeguarding thresholds and procedures and have knowledge of relevant legislation in the child/family support field. You must also understand the importance of maintaining professional boundaries and have knowledge of equal opportunities, anti-oppressive practice and the impact of discrimination.

You will have good communication skills both written and verbal, including report-writing and presentation skills. You will have experience of working in partnership with a wide range of professionals and be able to plan and manage a caseload of families with a wide variety of needs. You will have experience of building excellent relationships with parents/carers, children and young people, identifying their needs and developing support plans alongside families which lead to lasting change.

You will be able to prioritise and organise your own workload, adhering to service timescales, providing a timely, responsive service to families; working on your own initiate and adhering to safe lone working practices.

A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and casework recording systems is essential.
