Head Gardener

**Job description**

The American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) is seeking an experienced and dedicated Head Gardener to manage the grounds of Brookwood American Cemetery. Your job title within ABMC will be Operations and Technical Manager (OTM).

This role is critical; supervising a skilled team dedicated in maintaining and enhancing the hallowed grounds and ensuring the perfection of the site that will stand as a testament to the legacy of those commemorated here.

**Major Duties and Responsibilities**

In conjunction with the Superintendent, the OTM is responsible for supervising all trades employees on site.

The OTM will plan, organise, implement, and work hand in hand with the team in accomplishing critical tasks. The OTM will be responsible for project development, facility, and equipment management. The OTM acts as primary intermediary between the Superintendent and subordinate staff.

**Requirements**:

- 3 to 5 years expert gardener trade knowledge and an understanding of other related maintenance trades at the time of hire.
- A proven track record in horticultural management within a multi-discipline team in a horticultural setting sensitive to its cultural heritage.
- Must be able to pass a stringent security clearance procedure prior to employment.
- Must be legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom. ABMC does not sponsor employment. U.S. citizens are not eligible.

**Salary**

A permanent role within the ABMC in carrying the honor of safeguarding our heritage, a competitive salary (£**34,169.00**:

- £**43,659.00** per annum - hourly rate from £**16.43** to £**20.99**) will be determined based on your expertise and qualifications.

This is a permanent full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday (not remote)

**Qualifications required**:

- Higher National Diploma in Horticulture or similar Ground management qualification
- Certification in the use of phytosanitary products is preferred
