We are world-renowned for our trauma care and have developed pioneering surgical techniques in the management of ballistic and blast injuries, including bespoke surgical solutions for previously unseen injuries. We are a designated a Level 1 Trauma Centre and host of the UK's only 20m National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre (SRMRC).

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
The core component of this post is to provide anaesthetic cover for a variety of surgical services.

Due to retirement we are looking to recruit a Consultant Anaesthetist (General Duties). Successful applicants will undertake anaesthetic sessions across a range of surgical specialties including general surgery, trauma, plastics, urology and gynaecology.

**Person specification**:
**Qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- GMC Registration
- Inclusion on Specialist Registrar or, if in training eligible for inclusion on the Register within 6 months
- FRCA or equivalent

**Desirable**:

- Evidence of extended training in management of the difficult airway

**Experience**:
**Essential**:

- Evidence of extended training and experience in anaesthesia for surgical specialties such as general surgery, plastics, emergency and urology
- Experience in the peri-operative care of patients including pain management

**Desirable**:

- Experience in management of major trauma patients
- Experience of regional blockade for pain management and anaesthesia in trauma patients

**Additional Criteria**:

- Commitment to continuing personal development and medical education
- Managerial skills
- Commitment to quality improvement and patient safety
- Actively encourages research with junior and other staff

**Desirable**:

- Experience in teaching and clinical audit
- Computer skills
- Published / submitted research
