Job Title: Material Planner

Department: Supply Chain Management / Production

Reports to: Supply Chain Manager

Company: A global manufacturer and supplier of components to the automotive sector.

Job Overview: The Material Planner is responsible for ensuring that the materials required for production are provided according to schedule and meet quality standards. This role involves coordination with suppliers, maintaining inventory levels, and working closely with the production and procurement departments to prevent production delays.

Key Responsibilities:

- Develop and maintain detailed schedules and materials requirements lists based on the production schedules.
- Plan and execute procurement of materials based on needs of production and inventory targets.
- Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand.
- Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Manage inventory issues, schedule changes, and cancellations in a timely fashion.
- Coordinate with the warehouse to ensure proper storage and distribution of supplies.
- Evaluate supplier performance and ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Implement improvements in the material planning system to optimize inventory control procedures.
- Analyse and resolve any material shortages, backlogs, and other potential schedule interruptions.
- Work closely with the finance department to resolve invoice discrepancies.
- Participate in the development of policies and procedures that affect the use of materials.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

- Proven experience as a Material Planner, Inventory Manager, or similar role.
- Strong understanding of supply chain and inventory management systems.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines.
- Proficiency in database management and common computer software (e.g., ERP systems, Microsoft Office Suite).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain/Logistics, or a related field.

Desirable Skills:

- Certification in supply chain management such as APICS CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management).
- Experience in using statistical and forecasting fundamentals.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
- Ability to negotiate and sustain networking relationships.
