Independent Family Group Conference Coordinators

Overview:
The London Borough of Harrow is excited to announce an opportunity for four Independent Family Group Conference Coordinators to assist our Family Group Conference Service on a part-time, as and when basis.
Working as part of the Family Group Conference Service, this impactful role plays a pivotal part in aligning our practices with the principles of family engagement, empowerment, and inclusivity.
FGC Coordinators are instrumental in community engagement, event organisation, and fostering positive relationships within the Family Group Conference (FGC). With a focus on inclusivity and skill development, this role will ensure continuity and growth in our approach to working with families.
Responsibilities include preparing families, children and/or young people for a family group conference, ensuring good practice to result in the successful creation of a Family Plan and positive outcomes for young people and those involved. In addition, the decisions you make as FGC Coordinator regarding the advocacy needs within your work with families will impact on the Advocacy Service delivered by Mencap to children, young people and vulnerable adults, who have Social Services provision. It is therefore vital that you have an understanding of the family group conference model and can remain independent and objective.
Emphasising diversity, the FGC Coordinator(s) will actively contribute to building a team that mirrors the rich tapestry of our client base. By incorporating FGC standards into our processes, we aim to create a collaborative and culturally sensitive environment. Furthermore, we aim to collaborate with Children's Social Services and extend our reach through Early Help programs. FGC Coordinators are pivotal in supporting referrals from these vital sources, contributing to our commitment to community outreach and social impact.
About you:
Additionally, we are seeking applicants with:
- An understanding of the family group conference model.
- An understanding of legislation and guidance relating to children.
- Knowledge of social care processes relating to children.
- Experience of working with children and/or families, especially during times of crisis.
- The ability to remain calm during conflict.
- The ability to mediate, negotiate, cope with the unexpected and manage conflict to enable children, young people and other family members to make a plan.
- Professionalism to remain independent, neutral and objective.
- Confidence in convening and chairing large meetings.
- Be well organised, reliable and able to work to deadlines and work under pressure.
