Tobacco Treatment Advisor
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic person to work as a Tobacco Treatment Advisor to support people using our mental health services and our staff to stop smoking.
The NHS Long Term Plan (LTP 2019) is committed to addressing health inequalities on a national level. A key aspect to the plan is to support the NHS to significantly reduce smoking prevalence, preventing ill-health and disease. The correlation between the use of tobacco and disease is well founded. With this, an exciting opportunity to join a new tobacco addiction service at Bradford District Care NHS FT has arisen.
The service will offer assessment, advice, and evidence-based treatment including Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), psycho-social intervention and support to those who use tobacco within the acute healthcare setting.
Onward referrals to community services and patient follow up will be key in improving outcomes for the local health population. Providing evidence-based stop-smoking interventions within an acute healthcare setting has demonstrated a significant reduction in re-admissions and mortality and promote a healthier smoke-free Bradford District and Craven.
The post holder will provide tobacco treatment advice and support to individuals and groups of people, who want to stop smoking, including patients, staff and in some instances parents/carers of people who have been admitted.
This post will contribute to tackling inequalities in health through promoting and supporting people to stop smoking.
**The post holder will**:
- Promote the general health and wellbeing of people who use the service through offering healthy lifestyle advice and support.
- Work with people to change their behaviour to improve their health.
- Act as a smoke-free champion promoting the smoke free message through their day-to-day work.
- To support the day to day running of the onsite Tobacco Treatment Service to ensure safe, well organized and evidenced based care is offered routinely to all identified smokers and provided to all that access the service.
The post holder will be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the grade as directed.
We are a small team dedicated to the physical health care of people who experience serious mental ill health. We provide screening for individuals and are excited to develop our services to offer interventions including behaviour change interventions.
**Everything we do is underpinned by our core values**:
- We Care - We act with respect and empathy, and always value difference
We Listen - We understand people’s views and respond to their individual needs
We Deliver - We develop and provide excellent services and support our partners
A wide range of health and wellbeing support packages
A range of internal and external development and learning opportunities
Plus many more.
We are also proud to pledge our support to the Armed Forces and hold a Bronze Award in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.
BDCFT is dedicated to environmental and social sustainability by delivering on the commitments within our Green Plan. All staff are actively encouraged and supported to participate in training and to identify and implement sustainable quality improvement across all service areas and activities.
