A number of exciting opportunities exist for a highly committed individuals to join the **corrosion team **in the Materials, Chemistry & Corrosion department in Rolls-Royce Submarines in Derby.

We’re a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority.

The team supports the entire product lifecycle, including design, manufacture, in-service support and decommissioning for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plant. Industrial experience in prevention and characterisation of corrosion and environmentally assisted cracking is preferred and the applicant should have good knowledge of materials science, although there will be opportunities to learn more through product specific programmes of work.

You will be enthusiastic and able to engage with multiple key technical contacts to support design, in-service issues, and drive research programmes.

You will be required to support laboratory and on-site investigation when required. International and national travel may be required in this role

The role may also offer opportunities for involvement in collaborative technical programmes with industrial or academic partner organisations.

This is a predominantly office-based role requiring substantial interaction with nuclear engineers from a range of disciplines, internal and external customers and sub-contractors.

**What you’ll be doing**:

- Lead materials testing programmes through programme management and specification of corrosion testing requirements.
- The analysis and interpretation of data from corrosion testing and in-service issues.
- The production of design guidance to describe materials performance under a range of complex operating environments, based on results from both testing programmes and literature.
- Providing technical expertise and support towards the production of corrosion technical justifications.
- Leading materials capability reviews and directing the governance and creation of corrosion advice.
- Technical report writing for support to safety justifications.
- On site corrosion support (suppliers, dockyard, shipbuilder, etc).
- Leading failure investigations related to plant and manufacture.
- Lead laboratory testing and physical examination of components.
