Hospital Porter

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULTS AREAS:
1. The careful and considerate movement of patients, in line with agreed policies and procedures.

2. The movement and disposal of general and clinical waste. All moves must be undertaken in line with agreed policies and procedures.

3. The collection of soiled linen from wards, departments and, in line with agreed policies and procedures.

4. To routinely check, change and deliver mobile gas cylinders.

5. The careful transfer of furniture and equipment, including, with direction from the appropriate Trust staff, some medical equipment.

6. The routine and ad-hoc collection and delivery of such items as pathology specimens, blood, pharmaceutical items, and patient case notes x-rays, specimens, and sharps, ect.

7. To assist as directed, in emergency contingency procedures including fire, carrying of fire bleep, Major Incident, loss or interruption to communications, loss or interruption of utility services.

8. To participate in any training required to undertake the duties of this post

9. Demonstrate a clear and effective alignment with the operational objectives and the commercial interests of IFM

- Provide "buddy up" training

COMMUNICATION:

- Communicate with colleagues and general public

AUTONOMY:

- Post holder will have regular contact with their line manager
- Work will be regularly checked

ENVIRONMENT:
a) Physical:

- Post holder will be required to work with substances controlled under COSHH regulations
- Post will involve elements of manual handling

b)

Emotional:

- Post holder may be required to work in situations which could be distressing, e.g. mortuary

Health & Safety:
The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and amendments state it is the responsibility of all employees to comply with Health and Safety Law. The post holder will be required to attend all statutory Health and Safety training.

The post holder is required to comply with the Company's Health & Safety strategy, policy and procedure to ensure a safe and healthy environment for staff members, visitors, patients, contractors and others. The post holder must comply with the designated levels of responsibility as detailed within the IFM Ltd, Dudley Group of Hospitals Healthcare Project, Health and Safety Plan.

No Smoking:
There is a policy of No Smoking on premises. Smoking is only permissible in certain designated areas.

**Location**:
You may be required to work at other locations from time to time. Reasonable notice of any such changes will be provided.
