Here are the main duties expected of the Nursery practitioner. Please note that this description is a basic outline of the expected duties and that other additional duties may be requested from time to time.
- To know and understand all Nursery policies and assist in implementing these.
- To have the highest regard for safeguarding children. To know who your designated safeguarding lead is. To be prepared to challenge and report poor practice.
- To know and understand the statutory framework for the early years foundation stage
- To meet & greet parents and children in a positive and friendly manner
- To work as part of a team, keep your line leader up to date with your key children and general daily information.
- To be well presented at all times and be punctual and reliable
- To regularly update the children's diaries
- To assist with the care routines, nappy changing, potty training and toileting.
- To understand and assist in implementing room routines, assist with arts and crafts and wall displays and decoration. Participate in and contribute to daily/ weekly and long term planning and evaluations.
- To be aware of new starters and any allergies etc they may have
- To ensure that the ratios are adhered to at all times. Know how many children are in your care, continuously head count children when going outside and coming in.
- To participate in cleaning and ensure the room(s) and garden areas are clean and tidy at all times. And assist with laundry and any kitchen duties.
- To be a key person to selected children, ensure you know and carry out the children’s daily care routines, know the child’s likes and dislikes including any allergies, intolerances or medication needs. Liaise with parents; monitor the well-being and involvement of children. Carry out observations and assessments and use these to plan for the child’s next steps, (learning journeys) share these with parents. Maintain the children’s profiles and keep them up to date. Provide summative assessments (my unique story) at least three times a year and share these with parents. Where appropriate complete a progress check for children aged two years old. Report any progress concerns to your line leader.
- Be a buddy to some children and in the absence of their key person carry out the key persons usual duties.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and parents evenings twice a year. Attend training days outside of hours when required.
- Attend regular supervision meetings with your line leaders and share key children’s progress, well-being and any safeguarding concerns.
- Keep us informed of any changes to circumstances with regard to disclosing any convictions, court orders, reprimands that may affect your suitability to work with children. Including any convictions of people who live in the same household as you.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect for each other at all times.
- **Be a positive role model at all times, listen to and have respect for children, parents and staff in the setting.**

**Salary**: £7,200.00-£13,000.00 per year
