**Seasonal Beach Assistant**

Job Locations: Dinas Dinlle, Nefyn, Aberdaron, Machroes (Abersoch), Abersoch, Pwllheli (Marian y De), Cricieth, Morfa Bychan (Black Rock), Abermaw (Barmouth), Tywyn, Aberdyfi (Aberdovey).

**Purpose of the post**
- Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
- Assist to ensure that the general public are aware of the hazards and ensure that appropriate safety measures are in place.
- To manage and supervise the beach on a daily basis, ensuring that users comply with all beach by-laws and regulations.
- Inform and advise the public on all aspects of matters relating to safety and to provide tidal and weather information.
- Register power craft and issue launching / parking tickets.
- Collect the associated fees and charges and complete all adimnistrative work as required.
- Administer basic first aid and to summon the assistance of the emergency services as required.
- Complete any maintenance / manual works as directed.

**Responsibility for functions**
- Responsibility for the beach’s safety equipment, reporting any defects to the Senior Beach Officer or Habrourmaster immediately. Responsibility for the safety of the registration and launching permits, and for the safe transfer of all monies to the designated person. Responsibility for all tools and equipment used to carry out daily tasks and for all uniform provided. Assisting with ensuring that all equipment, notices, notice boards and vehicles are maintained to the expected standard.

**Main duties**
- Advise the public on safety matters.
- Advise the public on tides and weather.
- To manage the beach area on a day-to-day basis.
- Ensure that all powered craft are registered with Gwynedd Council prior to launching.
- Collect craft launching and registration fees as publicised by the Council, ensuring all monies are safely transferred to the designated person as well as completing all of the associated administrative work.
- Ensure that drivers of vehicles pay the specified parking or beach entrance fees.
- Issue beach safety pamphlets / leaflets to visitors.
- Ensure that the beach area is clear of all hazards and report any concerns to senior officers without delay.
- Check safety equipment and signage daily and complete all relevant forms.
- Advise the public on local coastal by-laws and policies.
- Complete work reporting sheets daily.
- To consult with the harbourmaster or Senior Beach Officer daily and to assist where necessary.
- Assist the emergency services and provide basic first aid assistance as required.
- Assist harbour staff with any maintenance work as required.
- Ensure that all vessels conform to the IRCPS and local policies and by-laws, reporting any incidents to the line manager immediately.
- Ensure that the beach is clean on a daily basis and to action as required.
- Clean the service’s vehicles on a daily basis.
- Ensure that beach award requirements are attained.
- Enforce by-laws relating to dog control orders and to distribute dog fouling bags as required.
- Dispose of animal carcasses from the foreshore as necessary
- Update the information in the notice boards as required.
- Complete any maintenance or manual work as and when required, ensuring that all tasks are in full compliance with the relevant risk assessments.
- Responsibility for self-development.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
- Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
- Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
- Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
- Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
- Responsibility to report any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused.

**Special circumstances**
- To work all weekends, Bank Holidays, and some evenings.
- Be prepared to assist outside of normal working hours in the event of an emergency.
- Rest days or holidays arranged through the line manager.
- Average working week will be 37
