The Pathology Point of Care Department is looking for a positive, enthusiastic, organised and conscientious individual to join them as a Healthcare Scientist/Training Officer at Nottingham University Hospitals in this busy expanding department.
The POCT team support clinical teams with POCT services such as Blood Gas, COVID/Flu/RSV testing, Glucose/Ketone, TEG, Urine dipstick, Pregnancy test, Prom/Partus, HbA1c, ACT, INR, Cholesterol and HIV and some of these meters are linked up to IT data managers. Over 1.7 million patient samples are tested on NUH POCT meters/devices annually.
The is a permanent full-time position.
Although the working hours are Monday - Friday 9am to 5pm a flexible approach to cover leave and sickness is expected. The post holder will rotate across each NUH campus as required by the service.
Main duties of the job
Under the direction and support of the POCT Manager the post holder will:
Oversee IQC and EQA compliance for all Point of Care devices.
Supervise and guide the Point of Care Team where appropriate.
Support on project implementations such as for new equipment or IT systems.
Support the POCT Manager in managing risks.
Assist in working towards UKAS accreditation.
Play an active role in the maintenance of the Quality Management System Q Pulse.
Manage assets on Q-pulse.
Manage and monitor the training of Trust Authorised Trainers on POCT ward equipment.
Manage and monitor the coordination and supervision of staff training in the department in accordance with the department’s Training Policy.
Ensure that accurate and up to date records are kept of all training activities.
Working for our organisation
The NUH NHS Trust is a large, busy teaching hospital comprising of two sites, the Queens Campus and the City Campus. The Queens Campus provides acute services supporting a very busy emergency service and trauma centre and the City campus supports Clinical Haematology, transplantation, stroke and cardiac services.
The POCT service operates over both sites with a few remote services.

**Essential criteria**
Accredited Biomedical Science Degree.
Registered Biomedical Scientist.
Postgraduate qualification e.g. LIBMS, FIBMS.
**Desirable criteria**
IBMS membership.
Demonstrates a knowledge of Point of Care equipment.
**Experience**
**Essential criteria**
Able to demonstrate competency in appropriate Pathology laboratory techniques.
Experience of quality control systems.
Demonstrates ability to provide training sessions to stakeholders.
**Desirable criteria**
2 years specialist experience and/or equivalent expertise in equipment used in a Point of Care environment.
**Communication skills**
**Essential criteria**
Positive attitude and commitment.
Able to communicate complex information to various stakeholders at all levels.
Able to lead and support a team.
Able to deal calmly with members of the public, patients and participants.
**Analytical skills**
**Essential criteria**
Judgement involving a range of moderately complex tasks or situations, which require analysis, and interpretation of a range of options. e.g. actions to be taken in case of technical failures and prioritisation of complex work.
Computer literate - to include experience in Microsoft Office, Excel, word processing, spreadsheets, databases and PowerPoint skills.
