Head of Transport

As the Head of Transport you will be responsible for the overall commercial success of HERMEQ Haulage. Success will be determined by having a world class fleet of drivers & offering an unrivalled service to our customer base.

We are looking for an experienced professional from the haulage industry, who is ambitious & continually strives to improve. They must have a comprehensive understanding of:

- Vehicle Procurement & Maintenance
- Driver Management
- Route Planning
- Backloading & Sub-Contracting
- Working with External Hauliers
- Industry Compliance
- Fuel & Efficiency Management

HERMEQ Haulage operates out of sites in Halesowen, Oldbury, West Bromwich, Essex & Dublin, with other 40 vehicles on the road daily. This role will be based at our HQ in Halesowen & is a full-time permanent role. As well as being responsible for our fleet of vehicles & drivers, this person will also directly manage & train our internal team of 2 Transport Managers & 1 Transport Planner. This person will sit on our senior management team and report directly into the Group Managing Director. They will be responsible for their divisions CapEx & profitability with the support of our Group Financial Director.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Ensures Health and Safety, Environmental and Operator's Licence compliance, whilst delivering best in class customer service, measured against business KPIs for Safety, Service and Profitability.
- Provides creative, flexible, tenacious, diplomatic and consistent leadership to develop the Transport team.
- Understands and leverages the company’s operating systems and communication devices, ensuring that all reporting staff are using the systems and devices correctly and in full, to the benefit of the operation.
- Oversees cost control and KPI performance, actively seeking to improve efficiency, reduce operating costs, increasing margin whilst meeting budget as a minimum.
- Deploys appropriate controls and procedures to effectively and efficiently manage all aspects of customer service and communication.
- Understands and appreciates customer requirements and quality standards. Engages with internal and external customers to meet and exceed customer expectations.
- Is the escalation point and authority for commercial vehicle and other vehicle maintenance and transport compliance.
- Maintains an excellent working knowledge of, and works proactively and in accordance with, all current and anticipated legislative requirements and best practice relevant to the transport industry.
- Ensures that all aspects of Health & Safety are adhered to, including H&S induction and training, operating procedures, near miss reporting and emergency procedures.
- Works closely with the warehouse team and other key stakeholders to ensure that all logistics solutions are fully integrated and designed to improve customer service.

**Key Skills / Attributes**:

- Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Haulage (compulsory)
- Customer, people and results centric;
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as part of a team, as well as manage people; excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Maintains a positive attitude to continued learning and growth

**Salary**: £50,000.00-£60,000.00 per year

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Halesowen: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Experience**:

- Transport Manager: 2 years (preferred)
