Overview

Working closely with the Chief Executive, the Head of Grants and Impact and the Board, you will support the delivery of our client to be an effective and efficient charity, with a focus on governance and financial management. This includes carrying out therole of Board Secretary, leading on the Audit and Risk Committee, and financial management and oversight of budgets across the organisation to support the charity to deliver its objectives.

The postholder will be part of their Senior Leadership Team and work closely with their Finance colleagues who provide financial management services and support to the charity.

Established in 2010, they are one of the biggest sports charities in the world, with an annual budget of around £35m. The independent charity supports Club Community Organisations (CCO) in delivering high quality projects and evidences its success to keystakeholders.

Aligned with their Communities Strategy, their aim is to create positive and lasting sporting, social, educational and health outcomes for wide range of beneficiaries, especially children and young people. Their team supports and inspires impactful workvia 92+ club community organisations, including those in them, EFL and National League. In turn, their work directly benefits more than 500,000 individuals at thousands of community venues and schools each year.

Their hybrid-working model also allows you some variety on your place of work, offering you the chance to work from home two days each week. Where possible, you will attend the office or site visits in line with their company policy. All staff liaise closelywith their line manager to manage their time appropriately and according to their work and team requirements.

The role
- Act as Board Secretariat to a highly experienced and committed Board, supporting them to operate effectively and in the best interest of the charity and its beneficiaries, including discharging their safeguarding responsibilities.
- Oversight of all their financial procedures including annual budget setting and monitoring processes, invoicing, analysis of income, expenditure and grants to inform strategic planning and decision making.
- Drive good practice, consistency and value for money across the charity in relation to all finance decisions and help to build capacity within the team in relation to financial planning and management.
- Lead on business continuity, risk management and internal governance for the charity, including oversight of the Audit and Risk Committee.
- Lead on their business planning activity and whole team activities such as Away Days and finance, risk or governance related training.
- Lead on compliance with charity law and reporting, including the co-ordination of the Annual Report and Accounts in partnership with their Finance Team and Board.
- Lead on their compliance with the Capability Code of Practice, including co-ordination of policies and procedures as required.
- Ensure they are well linked to other initiatives and organisations working in the same fields through participating in a range of relevant external fora and networks
- Share in their values and participate as a full member of their team, and where appropriate, carry out other duties as may reasonably be required.
- Line management of their team admin assistant, and other roles as required.

Requirements for the role
- Strong financial management skills and a track record of managing significant and/or complex budgets
- Strong written and analytical skills with the ability to carry out the Board Secretary function to a high standard
- Experience working in governance or operations within the voluntary, community, and/or sports sector
- An understanding of charity sector good practice, initiatives and legislation relevant to them, or the ability to acquire it
- Project management, planning and organisational skills, including the ability to manage a complex network of internal and external stakeholders
- People management and leadership skills, and the ability to get the best out of others including at a range of levels
- Ability to work at pace and under pressure, and to make sound judgement calls and solve problems
- Ability to communicate well to a range of audiences, and using different mediums, with oral and written skills to an excellent standard
- Excellent negotiation, interpersonal and relationship management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and with partners
- High level of computer proficiency, particularly with excel
- An understanding of and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and how they relate to the role
- Willingness to travel within England and Wales as and when appropriate
- A commitment to safeguarding all and effective safeguarding practice. A satisfactory enhanced DBS check will need to be completed
