Modern Matron for Surgery

My name is Simi and I am the interim Divisional Director of Nursing for Surgery at the Trust. I have worked in the NHS for many years and together with my Deputy and team of five Matrons, am responsible for the effectiveness of professional leadership and development of nursing within the Surgical Division in order to facilitate the delivery of excellent clinical practice.

As a group of Matrons and also as a wider Division, we are a very close knit team who are extremely supportive of each other, understand the pressures that each of us face and work together to provide outstanding care to all our patients, as well as providing fantastic leadership to our staff.

We have a Surgical Matron post which we would like to recruit to. As you know, the role of Matron can be challenging whilst at the same time being hugely rewarding, especially when working with the right team of people around you and this is absolutely what we can offer you if you were to join our Trust.

Your responsibilities of Matron here at the Trust would be varied and would include:

- Providing leadership and direction to the staff within care pathways for which they are accountable and ensure delivery of safe, high quality care in line with the organisation’s strategic vision;
- Providing expert clinical leadership to frontline staff, actively promoting Compassion in Practice and underpinning the 6Cs as well as the Trusts Values and Behaviours;
- Effective line management of Sisters/Charge Nurses/Team Leaders within the area for which they are responsible. This is fundamental in order to support a culture of consciousness to deliver financial balance and achievement of efficiencies;
- Taking a professional lead role in advising and supporting the Clinical Lead and Speciality Manager upon the corporate nursing agenda, in addition to own specialist area of nursing practice and development;
- Contributing to the corporate nursing agenda and leading upon specific projects as requested;
- Acting as a role model as a highly visible, accessible, fair and authoritative figure to whom staff, patients, families and carers can rely upon;
- Taking a professional lead role in advising and supporting the Clinical Lead and Speciality Manager upon the corporate nursing agenda, in addition to your own specialist area of nursing practice and development;
- Contributing to the corporate nursing agenda and lead upon specific projects.
