Job description

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated people to work both inside and outside in a customer facing environment. As a lock and weir keeper you will be joining a dynamic team

**Responsibilities include**:

- Managing and regulating water levels
- Providing safe passage to boaters and managing activities on and around the lock site, associated structures and reach
- Assisting colleagues and customers with local expertise and knowledge to ensure effective management of the navigation of the river
- Looking after lock buildings, facilities and grounds to provide a safe and clean environment
- Providing a timely and effective service and response to incidents through a 24 hour duty desk.
- Maintaining and developing health & safety good practices
- Developing and maintaining a strong customer service and acting as an ambassador for the Environment Agency
- Liaising and working with professional partners
- Ensuring efficient record keeping and information storage
- Collecting customer payments including license sales and tolls, and reconciling and managing petty cash.

Experience/skills required
- Strong customer focus and communication skills particularly face to face and over the phone
- Well organised and methodical with attention to detail
- Able to prioritise and highlight potential issues
- Achieves results and delivers outcomes
- Able to use standard IT packages efficiently and to learn specialised systems
- A quick learner who can work effectively and efficiently on their own or as part of a team
- Able to swim
- Able to drive and has a valid driving license

**Working hours**: Averages out at 37.5hr per week across the year but hours as per below.

**July and August**: 9am to 6:30pm

**May, June and September**: 9am to 6pm

**April and October**: 9am to 5pm

Salary £13.02 per hour plus shift allowance, London waiting applicable on some locations
