**A quick look at the role**
Due to an acquisitive nature and resilient business model, Biffa has sustained significant growth over the last few years despite the macroeconomic challenges faced. This growth is expected to continue given the interest in the waste and sustainability sectorgoing forward. Reporting to the Director of Group Finance, the **Head of Financial Accounting**is responsible for managing a team to deliver the Group consolidation, production of financial statements and a smooth audit process. Additional areas of involvement include the Group wide entity rationalisation project, the financial reporting systemtransformation project and providing the wider business with technical accounting expertise.
**Your core responsibilities**
- Manage the external reporting team (3x qualified accountants) to fulfil the responsibilities below
- Conduct the Group statutory financial reporting process at year end, from consolidation through to producing the annual report
- Produce statutory accounts for all legal entities in the Group
- Primary point of contact for auditors throughout the year. This involves taking the lead on discussions of judgemental areas, thorough audit planning and ensuring auditors meet their deliverables on time
- Ensure that the Group's financial reporting complies with IFRS and statutory disclosure requirements. Where guidance changes, lead the implementation of these changes
- Provide support to finance personnel across the business in the more technical areas. This involves contributing to month-end and forecast numbers relating to joint ventures, share-based payments, leases, pensions, derivatives and service concession arrangements
- Produce and review technical accounting papers and financial models relating to key judgemental areas. Some of these papers will be presented to the Board
- Lead the financial aspect of the Group-wide entity rationalisation project. This project aims to significantly reduce the total number of legal entities in the Group
- Assist with the design and implementation of the new financial reporting system using experience gained at other businesses
- Technical lead on the accounting and subsequent integration of acquisitions
- Work alongside the Treasury team to complete covenant compliance submissions
- Encourage a culture of best practice with regards to financial controls and processes throughout the business
**Requirements**:
- Qualified Accountant (ACA or ACCA) achieved at a professional services firm (preferably Big 4)
- Experience performing consolidations while in the Group Finance function of a large corporate
- Management of an audit process (from either side)
- Strong understanding of IFRS and statutory reporting requirements
- Analytical with advanced Excel
- Confident and assertive with the ability to challenge and influence at all levels
- Well organised with excellent attention to detail
- Strong time management with the ability to prioritise effectively
- Adaptable with the ability to work effectively under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines
- Proactive attitude to identifying and correcting issues
