Costs Draftsman

**The Role**

You will need to understand Legal Aid Regulations and comply with our Legal Aid contract. You will be expected to prepare large accurate bills for assessment. Experience in billing Court of Protection matters would also be of benefit.

**Duties**

The role will include but is not limited to:

- Preparing and submitting claims for costs/legal aid billings on CCMS
- Drafting and management of a caseload of files
- Liaising and advising support staff in relation to a variety of legal costs matters, ensuring the workflow and processes and procedures related to costs are followed
- Providing technical advice and supervision to less experience members of the team
- Reporting any cases that fall outside of the draftsperson’s individual authority to the Head of the Family department
- Managing files to make sure that all time spent is accurately recorded
- Ensuring the case management system is used properly and effectively in accordance with agreed procedures
- Monitoring and managing own compliance with targets in respect of income and drafting
- Assisting with billing as well as various administrative tasks.

**Skills**
- experience as a Costs Draftsman or similar
- an ability to deal with drafting of legal aid bills including the use of CCMS
- Ability to complete hourly rated case plans( an advantage but not a requirement )
- strong communication and organisation skills
- prior experience of legal aid costing is essential; prior experience of Court of Protection costing is desirable
- experience in drafting bills of costs
- strong attention to detail
