**Do you want to transform young lives?**
**About the Role**:
You will be a member of a responsible team in charge of the day-to-day care of young people with Emotional and/or Behavioural difficulties within a Children’s home.
**We are looking for people** whose skills will shine We recognise that no two applicants are the same BUT we are looking for applicants who are the 'right fit' to work in Children's Residential Care to support young people who are healing from trauma.
**Why do children come into the care system?**
The most common reason is neglect and the chaotic environment within the the birth family. It's important to understand the experiences of the young people you will look after. Chaotic households often lack stability and consistency and these can have a profound impact on a child. It's likely that there were no real routines, discipline or care. It is likely they will not have had their emotional needs met, they were not fed when they were hungry, not tended to if they were hurt or not comforted when they were feeling sad. This lack of empathy and care can have serious consequences.
**Please note,** we regret that we are not considering applicants from a Health and Social Care Background (Adult Care), Teaching Assistants or Nursery Nurse Assistants.
**Ideally,** **applicants will have worked in any of these roles and sectors; -** Youth and Community Work, Qualified Teacher, Child Protection, Family Support Worker, Youth Justice, Sports Coaching, Housing/Homelessness, Drug and Alcohol Services (this is not an exhaustive list)
**Applicants must have had some direct work with children and young people, ideally between the ages of 8-25.**
Young people in our care are healing from trauma. This role requires you to have a high-degree of patience and tolerance.
**Support Workers are professionals** who are also role models and advocates. **Day to day responsibilities** will vary BUT your focus is always the same - **To help build confidence, self-esteem**, **resilience and to help improve the lives of** **young** **people**.
**Skills required**:
- Building rapport with young people
- Listening, patience and empathy
**Qualifications**:You do not need to be qualified. However, you should **be willing to complete the relevant qualifications.**
**A little bit about us**:We provide a home for children and young people who have particular needs that make it impractical for them to live at home, or who expressly prefer not to be placed with foster carers. We also cater to young people who display challenging and complex behaviour and would best benefit from a secure, stable environment within a small home setting.
**Therapeutic Focus**:We believe that all children and young people should be supported through therapeutic practices in every way possible. Our staff teams are provided with intensive therapeutic training.
**We use an array of therapeutic approaches** to support healing and wellbeing and to help young people understand their experiences and to find alternative ways of expressing hurt, sadness, anger and frustration.
As support worker **you will use a therapeutic perspective in your day to day role.** This will include, understanding how young people's experiences affect them, taking into consideration emotional needs.
**Some of your responsibilities include**:
- Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children/young people
- Actively promoting structure, boundaries and routines within a safe and nurturing environment
- Working in partnership with schools, colleges, OFSTED, Social Workers and other agencies and professionals to ensure the needs of the young people are met
- Engaging in a variety of activities with the young people
- Being a strong and positive role model for the young people
- Working in line with the young people's care plans
- Undertaking regular training as part of my professional development
- Completing admin tasks
- School-runs, attending plays and school events
- Maintaining the home
**For this role** we are considering applicants with no previous experience, as we will provide full training. However, if you have worked with children and young people and/or you hold any childcare related qualifications this would be and advantage. **We are also looking for some unique qualities** and of course you should naturally want to make a positive impact in your role.
**Upon joining our team,** you will receive a thorough induction, relevant training, a generous development package, use of company vehicles, the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications which will support you to look at promotions within our company as we are expanding the number of homes we have.
