The department offers a broad DT experience for KS3 students in resistant materials, food, graphics and têxtiles. At KS4 there are opportunities for students to study hospitality and catering, construction and engineering. Students can continue their studies in construction at KS5 with possible future developments in hospitality and catering.

The department consists of three fully equipped workshops, a purpose built construction unit, two well equipped food rooms with preparation area, a têxtiles room and an ICT suite. The department is supported by two full time technicians.

Our vision is to put students first in order to raise standards and transform lives. To make this happen, we innovate constantly, including a curriculum that is designed to enable personalised learning in depth and with breadth. We ensure that additional teaching time and resources are provided to support students to leave with a solid foundation of good and better grades.

OGAT are proud to be a part of the National Institute of Teaching (NIoT) hosting its North and East campus as Outwood Academy Redcar and Outwood Academy Adwick. The NIoT identifies best practice in education, in order to develop cutting-edge, evidence-based teacher training and professional development programmes. OGAT colleagues will benefit from the work of the institute, which draws on the expertise of some of the most outstanding school leaders in education today.

In 2021 we completed a new multi-million pound development, the highlight of which was a new 17 classroom teaching block which is home to music and drama rooms, art rooms, a main hall and a dining room. We are proud to have been awarded Gold Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.
