Apprentice Groundworker

The Groundworker is an important person to the site they are working on and will have specific duties in the delivery of your works and the gang you may be working in, which need to be to the very highest standards of Health, Safety and Quality.
The key responsibilities of the apprentice groundworker are to carry out various groundwork’s activities safely, to the highest quality standards, working productively and efficiently, as outlined below but not limited to;
- When at work you are employed and acting on behalf of Wyn Construction Ltd and must ensure that you always create a positive image on behalf of the company.
- Ensure you have good timekeeping and are punctual for the start of every working day so that you are ready to start work on site at 7.30am.
- Ensure that you attend college on the designated dates as defined in the college programme calendar.
- You will be part of team and must ensure good communication with all parties in order to build good working relationships with the Wyn team, other Contractors, and the Client team.
- Always follow all the Health and Safety and Environmental procedures and rules when on site.
- Familiarise yourself and have a good understanding of the Wyn procedures and standards required with regards to Health, Safety and Environmental good practice.
- Ensure you have a safety briefing on the risk assessment and method statement (RAMS) relevant to your works before you start the works.
- Always wear full PPE as required for the site specific rule or risk assessment when working on site.
- Look out for your own safety and health, and that of others working with or around you.
- Report all hazards, unsafe practices, and accidents immediately to your supervisor.
- You are responsible for the protection and maintenance of all Wyn company property and equipment that you are provided and use, this includes hand tools, small power tools and mechanically operated plant.
- Ensure all plant, machines and equipment are parked/ stored away safely at the end of each working shift, and that they are kept in good, clean & safe working order, only use tools and plant that you have been trained to do so.
- You will be trained to undertake general groundworks tasks on the site for example,
- General operatives labouring duties.
- Installing below drainage systems, manholes and pipes.
- Concreting operations on rafts, foundations, slabs, walls etc.
- Laying kerb rafts and kerbs.
- Laying various paving types.
- Working with plant and machinery i.e. excavators, dumpers, ride on rollers.
- Other general groundworks tasks.
Weekly Wage
£7 Per hour (review at 6 monthly intervals during apprenticeship)
41.5 Hours per week
Working Week
Monday to Thursday 7.30am to 16.30pm
Friday 7.30am to 15.30pm
Vacancy Location (If different to registered address)
Various Locations across the North East i.e. County Durham, Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Darlington etc
Driving Licence Needed
Own transport would be advantageous, but potentially company transport may available depending on home location.
