The University Hospital of North Midlands, Mid Cheshire and East Cheshire NHS Trusts are working collaboratively to form a Pathology network in line with a NHSI directive.

**The Role of phlebotomy supervisor is**

to provide day to day supervision of the phlebotomists as directed by the phlebotomy manager.

To collect samples from patients using venepuncture and capillary techniques. To communicate with patients in a mature, discreet and professional manner, with due regard to confidentiality.

To work as a team with laboratory, medical and clerical staff in order to ensure the highest standards of service.

To liaise with departmental managers & other supervisors as required e.g. walk-in centre managers, ward managers etc.

To use, and oversee use of, pre-analytical processes e.g. use of electronic requesting systems, centrifugation, samples labelling.

Assist in domiciliary phlebotomy.

To assist in the training of new and existing staff in phlebotomy techniques and ensure that standards are maintained throughout the team. To deputise for the phlebotomy management team when necessary.
