The
**Harm Reduction Recovery Motivator** role is designed to enable ‘first steps into treatment’ and will be based within Southampton. Recovery Motivators are anticipated to be people who are themselves in recovery in respect of drug or alcohol use and dealing with the Blood Borne Virus Hepatitis C.

The main function of the
**Recovery Motivator** role will be to be a welcoming and consistent face in the open access reception area and signpost service users within local communities to relevant support agencies.

**Salary**:£22,357.18 to £23,525.95 (CGL Points 17-19) pro rata

**Responsibilities**:
**Key Activities**
- Deliver workshops using personal experience to convey key messages about the importance of hepatitis C testing and treatment options
- Provide information and support to hard-to-reach individuals who have, or who are at risk of, hepatitis C
- Provide hepatitis C testing
- Work with our needle exchange
- Give out Naloxone and train staff and service users around this
- Refer hepatitis C positive patients C to treatment clinics
- Provide emotional and practical support along the treatment pathway
- Advocate on behalf of the peer group and patient network at key events and meetings
- Collect data and monitoring forms at the end of each workshop and to record
- Work within the Communities building and ensuring local awareness of the support available within the City
- Create links with local communities and working to target people affected by drugs and alcohol who are not in touch with mainstream services - those isolated in communities, unaware of services, or who do not feel services are for them
- Work closely with other community-based projects and local facilitators in supporting recovery focused activities
- Undertake a training programme to develop skills and abilities required to be a Recovery Motivator
- Attend Team meetings/group supervision with the aim of sharing good practices and finding solutions
- Meet individuals within the community to discuss their personal goals regarding their recovery
- To meet with families affected by drugs and alcohol to discuss their personal goals and support needs
- To utilise existing local resources and build local community awareness, signposting to relevant agencies
- Promote Southampton DARS
- Gather and store data in accordance with requirements
- Assist the Volunteer Counsellor and BRIC coordinator in setting up and identifying specialist advice /support and recovery opportunities
- Adhere to CGL and Local Authority Safeguarding Processes

**General terms of reference**

- Work flexibly within the agreed number of hours (this will include some unsociable hours)

**Person Specification**
- Experience of drug or/and alcohol misuse
- Understanding or lived experience of having Hepatitis C and the challenges and stigma people face
- Understanding of the need for and ability to deliver quality services
- Knowledge of and links within the City
- Skills to undertake data and administrative duties
- Communicate confidently and effectively, verbally and in writing
- Respond flexibly to the demands of the post
- Work as a member of a team
- Show a capacity to work alone
- Ability to keep calm under pressure
- Understand and have a commitment to the principles of equal opportunity and diversity
- Employ a mature, empathetic, and non-judgmental attitude towards service users
- Show commitment to facilitating positive outcomes for service users
