The Safety Office is an essential function within Human Resources and plays a key role in ensuring our cutting-edge research and teaching is conducted safely.

As a Divisional Partnership Safety Officer, you will be part of a friendly team of advisers and support staff in the Safety Office, providing health and safety support and guidance to all sectors of the University.

**What we offer**

As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees’ wellbeing and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:

- An excellent contributory pension scheme
- 38 days annual leave
- A comprehensive range of childcare services
- Family leave schemes
- Cycle loan scheme

The University also organises many social groups and sports clubs for those looking for more than just a great place to work.

Hybrid working is available, with the working pattern to be to discussed at interview.

**About the role**

The University Occupational Health and Safety Office is part of the Human Resources department within the University Administration and Services. The Office provides advice on all aspects of health and safety within the University, including fire safety. Its main function is to support the University’s Safety Executive Group, by monitoring compliance and formulating policies or guidance. This includes coordinating consultation exercises with the University’s Consultative Committee for Health and Safety.

The Office also supports divisions and departments via a divisional partnership model. This includes the provision of health and safety training, monitoring and conducting incident investigations, undertaking inspections and audits, coordinating improvement programmes and the provision of a hazardous waste disposal service. The post holders will be a key part of this divisional partnership, providing direct support to divisions and departments. This will predominantly involve supporting individuals within the University Administration and Services, Humanities Division, and the Garden, Libraries and Museums, as other divisions employ their own area or divisional safety support. However, the roles could be deployed to support any part of the University depending on priorities and the post holders’ own knowledge or experience.

**About you**

You should have proven experience of providing health and safety advice on a wide range of potential hazards. An ability to explain health and safety issues clearly to staff at all levels and to external contractors and to devise practical solutions to problems is essential. You will need to be able to motivate and lead others in finding workable solutions to health and safety problems.

As well as working collaboratively and flexibly with a range of people from varying disciplines to achieve solutions in the best interest of the University, you will need to be able to work independently, identify key areas for improvement and suggest practicable solutions to complex issues.

Previous experience of a health and safety management role in a large, complex organisation would be useful as would membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, or an equivalent professional body. It would be desirable if applicants had a current full driving licence

**Application process**

Interviews will take place either during the week commencing Monday 20 March 2023 or week commencing Monday 27 March 2023. The interviews will be in person.
