**Job summary**:
We have an exciting opportunity for a **GIS** **Data Validator** to join our International Validation Team - part of the International Centre for Electronic Navigational Charts You will receive full training in the validation of Electronic Navigational Charts which will cover the relevant standards as well as the specific software tools we use.

To retain capacity to process an increasing throughput of data we require a Data Validator to join the UK based team.

The role of the Data Validator ensures IC-ENCs Global folio of ENCs to conforms to standards on behalf of IC-ENCs 48 producing organisations, this provides the opportunity to work with international colleagues to improve the quality of digital charts and develop into the future of global Maritime Data Products.

The role offers pathways for progression into either a Data Manager role or a Senior Data Validator role.

You’ll have the chance to get involved in a variety of activities and contribute to the delivery of training, if this is something you are interested in.

**Who are we looking for?**

If you are a **recent graduate** with a degree in **Geography, GIS or similar** this could be the role for you Alternatively, you may have a background/experience in **marine navigation at sea or ashore** which brings a key user perspective to our team. All required training will be provided so what’s most important is having an enthusiasm for quality.

**Hybrid Working**

Initial training will be in the office, after which hybrid working will be available. There are some tasks within the team that require the post holder to be in the office, which is managed through a team rota.

**Job description**:
The UK Hydrographic Office is a leading centre for hydrography, providing marine geospatial data to inform maritime decisions. We work with a wide range of data suppliers and partners to support maritime navigation, safety, security and marine development around the UK and worldwide.

As a Data Validator within the international validation team, your key tasks will be:

- Performing Data registration checks and loading Maritime Data Products onto industry standard products, such as ECDIS
- Undertaking the validation of Maritime Data Products, principally Electronic Navigational Charts, providing feedback reports to IC-ENCs members
- Creating IC-ENCs Exchange Sets for issuing to IC-ENCs Value Added Resellers and Distribution Partners
- Providing production support and guidance to IC-ENC members
- Supporting the Conversion Readiness service and the assessment of S-100 Maritime Data Products.

Additionally, the role will support the IC-ENC Data Manager and wider Management Team in:

- Supporting the development of IC-ENC services into wider Maritime Data Products and services
- Contributing to Continual Improvement activities within IC-ENC

**Person specification**:
You will be able to work independently and as part of a team to deliver validation service to IC-ENC members, using problem solving and analytical skills to validate maritime data products and provide guidance to IC-ENCs members. The following skills would provide the basis of a GIS Data Validator within the international team.

**Essential criteria**
- Good understanding of geographic data principles, e.g. vector data capture and attribution
- Good understanding of data Quality Assurance requirements and procedures
- Experience and training in geospatial software tools and data.
