We have an exciting opportunity available based at the DM Beith site, where our multi-skilled teams receive, store, maintain, issue complex weapons (missiles and torpedoes), general munitions and their supporting non-explosive systems, spares and materiel in support of UK Armed Forces worldwide.

As a top tier Major Accident Control Regulation (MACR) site, DM Beith has a number of special to type explosives processing facilities and a large number of explosives store houses operating under strict Safe Systems of Work including safe storage, handling and processing regimes to ensure the associated explosives, chemical and fuel hazards and risks are managed and mitigated.

As safety professional working on site you will find the role varied with a plethora of safety activities to both challenge and provide development opportunities; which would be fully supported by the business.

The role requires awareness and advice to the Head of Establishment and other departments on site of current Occupational, Fire, Explosives and Health & Safety legislation. The post holder will act as the focal point for all Health and Safety related matters reviewing hazard and risk assessments along with site policies and procedures as required or directed. They will also support the wider Occupational Health and Safety and the Environment (OHSE) function by undertaking investigations that are not related to ordnance, munitions or explosives.

Please note, attendance to the stated site will be required for this position, as well as a requirement to travel to other sites to support them as and when required.

**About the role**
In this exciting opportunity, you will be involved in key activities such as:

- Formal delegation for responsibility as Explosive Safety Representative (ESR), maintaining the explosives safety management system, including auditing and ensuring compliance to Explosives Regulations and DE&S policy.
- Providing competent Occupational Health and Safety advice and guidance aspects including Safe Systems of Work, Risk Assessments, Fire Safety, Transport Management, Radiation Safety, Asbestos/legionella Management, Major Accident Control Regulations (MACR), Explosive Licensing and Dangerous Goods,
- Management of the Permit to Work (Explosives) system in accordance with standing orders and ensure that the 4C’s conditions are met.
- Ensuring that infrastructure checks are conducted as required and you are to conduct Safeguarding checks quarterly and maintain the site safeguarding map (Plan E).
- Develop and maintain an effective inspection/first line of defence assurance regime to assess compliance, issuing report and tracking actions through to completion.
- Assist in embedding compliance of OHS legislation and regulations across DE&S.
- Provide metrics for performance reporting (KPIs and BPIs) and manage dashboard reporting and risk registers.
- Act as a mentor and coach to more junior members within team to build skills and capabilities.

**Person specification**:

- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent level 3 qualification - to be held or gained within 6 months of employment
- Relevant work experience in a similar role
- Lead auditor qualification - to be held or gained within 6 months of employment
- Professional membership: Tech IOSH to be held or gained during employment.
- Experience working within defence industry
- Experience of leading audits
- Ammunition Technician or other Service/Army/Civilian qualifications in the Safety Management of Weapons Ordnance Munitions Explosives (WOME)
- Knowledge of COMAH (Control of Major Accidents and Hazards) Regulations, and associated emergency procedures
