This post is an exciting opportunity to the Nottingham Clinical Trials Unit (NCTU). The unit is a rapidly growing academic unit within the University of Nottingham that supports clinical trials within the University and local NHS trust. The Unit is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow.
This project is funded by the East Midlands Clinical Research Network funding stream: targeting under-served communities in research 2023/24. Little research is performed in adult (elderly) care homes, despite the high levels of clinical care needed in this population, meaning that there is a lack of evidence-based medicine available to optimise care. Research in social care settings often have additional barriers compared to research within the NHS including that most of the research infrastructure /regulations are designed around a medical rather than a social care setting. This project aims to identify barriers and potential solutions and facilitators to research in this setting by an in-depth exploration of the barriers and resultant solutions from the expertise built up from previous care home research across the East Midlands. The project will result in the production of guidelines to support future care home research and provide accompanying videos for researchers, care home staff and residents & their families.
The aim of this project is to identify barriers and facilitators to research in an adult care home setting.
First, a survey will be developed, by researchers at the University of Nottingham. The online survey will be disseminated widely across the region to researchers, care home managers, residents of adult care homes and their families and other key stakeholders e.g. ENRICH network members. Secondly, the results of the first stage will be refined into key themes through a series of semi-structured interviews and/or focus groups. Finally problems and solutions will be prioritised based on their impact on the study and how commonly they occurred. These will be then included in guidelines for future researchers, and be disseminated in videos for researchers, care home staff and residents family members.
