The key responsibility of this role is to perform accurate summarising of patients medical records onto the clinical software system EMIS from paper records when a patient transfers into the practice. The notes are summarised using a coding system which captures key information such as diagnoses, medical procedures and allergies. The post holder will also be responsible for the management of incoming medical records as well as collating, storing and retrieving records. A medical summariser summarises all medical notes and letters.
This provides healthcare professionals with an accurate, easily accessible electronic summary of a patient's medical history. This could be crucial information in an emergency situation. You may be required to assist with other administrative tasks occasionally depending on projects which may arise.
